Eddy Arnold (1918 - 2008)

Eddy Arnold, whose mellow baritone on songs like "Make the World Go Away" made him one of the most successful singers in history, died Thursday at a care facility just south of Nashville. He was 89. Sally, his wife of 66 years, died March 11 after a short illness. Survivors include a son and daughter. (Source: AP via Knoxville News Sentinel)

Charlton Heston (1924 - 2008)

Charlton Heston, who won the 1959 best actor Oscar as the chariot-racing "Ben-Hur" and portrayed Moses, Michelangelo, El Cid and other figures in movie epics of the '50s and '60s, has died. He was 84. He is survived by two children, Fraser Clarke Heston and Holly Heston Rochell, and three grandchildren, Jack Alexander Heston, Ridley Rochell and Charlie Rochell. (Source: AP via CNN.com)

Arthur C. Clarke (1917 - 2008)

Arthur C. Clarke, a writer whose seamless blend of scientific expertise and poetic imagination helped usher in the space age, died Wednesday in Colombo, Sri Lanka, where he had lived since 1956. He was 90. He was briefly married in 1953 to an American diving enthusiast named Marilyn Mayfield; they separated after a few months and were divorced in 1964, having had no children. Jeaf Healey (1966 - 2008)

Blind rock and jazz musician Jeff Healey has died after a lifelong battle against cancer. Healey had battled cancer since age 1, when a rare form of retinal cancer known as Retinoblastoma claimed his eyesight. Due to his blindness, Healey taught himself to play guitar by laying the instrument across his lap. He was 41. Healey is survived by his children, Rachel and Derek, as well as his wife, Cristie, father (by adoption) and stepmother, Bud and Rose Healey, and sisters Laura and Linda. (Source: AP via Google)

Roy Scheider (1932 - 2008)

Roy Scheider, a two-time Oscar nominee best known for his role as a police chief in the blockbuster movie "Jaws," died Sunday. He was 75 and lived in Sag Harbor, N.Y. Besides his wife, Brenda Seimer, his survivors include three children, Christian Verrier Scheider and Molly Mae Scheider, with Ms. Seimer, and Maximillia Connelly Lord, from an earlier marriage, to Cynthia Bebout; a brother, Glenn Scheider of Summit, N.J.; and two grandchildren.
